Bangladesh names Justice AKM Asaduzzaman anti-graft chief. Two former officials join him as commissioners.

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, who retired from Bangladesh’s Appellate Division in February, has been appointed chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission as the government reconstitutes the anti-graft watchdog.

Former secretary Jahangir Alam Khan and former National Board of Revenue tax commissioner Md Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan were appointed commissioners, according to a notification issued Monday and signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani.

The appointments were made under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. Under the law, the chairman will receive salary, allowances, status, and other benefits equivalent to those of an Appellate Division judge. The commissioners will receive benefits and status equivalent to those of a High Court Division judge.

The commission had been without commissioners since March 3, when chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen and commissioners Mia Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Hafiz Ahsan Farid resigned.
