Four people were killed and two others seriously injured Sunday when a pickup truck overturned on a highway in Bangladesh’s southeastern Rangamati district, police and hospital officials said.
The crash occurred in the Manikchhari area of Sapchhari Union on the Rangamati-Khagrachhari highway, near the Manikchhari Army Camp. Police and witnesses said the pickup was traveling from Rangamati town toward Kutukchhari Bazar when the driver lost control and the vehicle left the road.
Police, army personnel, and local residents rescued the victims and took them to Rangamati General Hospital. Resident medical officer Shawkat Akbar said four people were dead on arrival and two were seriously injured. One was later referred to Chattogram.
Police identified the dead as Meghrani Chakma, Shantona Chakma, Shobha Chakma, and Shanti Ranjan Chakma. The damaged vehicle was seized, and legal proceedings are underway.
