A court in Chandpur has sentenced one man to death and another to life in prison for the 2022 killing of a gold trader in Matlab South upazila.
Joy Biswas Anik, 21, of Munshiganj, was sentenced to death, while Hridoy Sutradhar, 21, of Matlab South, received a life sentence.
Additional district and sessions judge Md Kamal Hossain delivered the verdict Wednesday in the presence of Anik. Sutradhar remains absconding.
According to case details, the two men intercepted Omar Sarkar, 45, a gold trader at Narayanpur market, on Feb. 21, 2022, as he was returning home. Prosecutors said the attackers slit Sarkar’s throat with a sharp weapon.
The court found both defendants guilty in connection with the killing.
