A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of actor Mohammad Ashraful Haque, popularly known as Don, in a case over the alleged murder of Bangladeshi film legend Salman Shah.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam issued the order after hearing arguments from defense lawyer Md Tariqul Islam Jewel and metropolitan public prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki.
Don’s bail petition said he had been falsely implicated and argued that neither the case statement nor the arrest forwarding report contained a specific allegation against him.
Don was arrested early Sunday at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as he attempted to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah. He had previously been barred from leaving Bangladesh in connection with the case.
Salman Shah died at his Eskaton residence in Dhaka on Sept. 6, 1996. His maternal uncle filed a murder case in October 2025 accusing 11 people.
