Bangladesh launches Dhaka-Gopalganj commuter train via Padma Bridge

A new commuter train connecting Dhaka with Gopalganj via Padma Bridge began service Monday, offering a direct rail option for residents after a long wait.

Abhijatree Commuter left Kamalapur Station in Dhaka at 3:15 p.m. and arrived in Gopalganj at 7:10 p.m. on its inaugural run.

The train has about 700 seats and is expected to provide passengers with a safer, lower-cost transportation option between the capital and Gopalganj.

Residents have expressed optimism that the service will also support economic activity in the region by improving passenger movement and access.

Benefits are expected to extend beyond Gopalganj. Residents of neighboring Pirojpur and Bagerhat districts are also expected to gain from the new rail connection, which links the area to Dhaka through Padma Bridge.
