Bangladesh begins solar push at key government offices

Bangladesh has decided that several of its most important government offices will meet the majority of their electricity needs through solar power, according to a Cabinet Division circular.

The directive covers Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Planning Commission and the Finance Division.

The circular, issued Monday, calls for solar power to be used to meet most electricity requirements for official activities at the designated offices.

Other government offices will also be required to maximize their use of solar power in phases, according to the circular.

The decision establishes a phased approach to expanding solar electricity use across government operations, beginning with some of Bangladesh’s central administrative institutions.
