Bangladesh renews extradition push for Hasina during meeting with Indian envoy

Bangladesh has urged India to expedite the extradition of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and renewed its request for the return of people accused in the killing of Osman Hadi.

The requests were raised Monday when Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

During the meeting, Rahman stressed the need to create an appropriate environment to further advance relations between Bangladesh and India.

Trivedi briefed Rahman on his experience during his first two months in Dhaka and discussed various aspects of bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir and other officials attended the meeting.

Foreign minister said Bangladesh has received two invitations from India, one from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a bilateral visit and another addressed to the chairperson of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Sept. 12-13. He said no decision has been made on either invitation.
