Bangladeshi actor Mohammad Ashraful Haque, known by his stage name Don, has been arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in connection with the murder case involving legendary film star Salman Shah (pictured).
Police presented Don before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court, where metropolitan magistrate Jewel Rana ordered him jailed. Don had no lawyer present, and no bail petition was filed on his behalf.
The case was formally treated as a murder investigation after Salman Shah’s family challenged a Police Bureau of Investigation report that concluded he died by suicide. A court later granted the family’s revision petition.
Eleven people, including Don, Salman Shah’s former wife Samira Haq and Aziz Mohammad Bhai, were accused under sections 302 and 334 of the Penal Code.
“We are very happy that this accused [Don] was arrested at the airport,” the family’s lawyer said, calling for his interrogation in remand and the arrest of Samira Haq.
Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, said to Channel 24 she remained determined to learn the truth about her son’s death. “I believe Allah has kept me alive specifically to prove this case,” she said.
