Fire damages shops and home at Netrokona’s Boro Bazar, leaving five injured

A major fire damaged at least five shops and a nearby home in Netrokona’s Boro Bazar, injuring five people as firefighters battled the blaze with 10 units, according to an Ekattor TV report.

The fire began around 9:30 p.m., fire service officials said. Its cause was not immediately known. Two firefighting units were sent from Mymensingh to assist local crews, and the blaze was brought under control within about an hour.

Three firefighters and two local residents were hospitalized after being exposed to heavy smoke and intense heat. No deaths were reported.

“The exact extent of the damage cannot be accurately determined yet,” the reporter said, citing darkness, crowds and limited visibility at the scene.

Police, Border Guard Bangladesh and Rapid Action Battalion personnel were deployed to the commercial district to prevent theft. Red Crescent volunteers also assisted.

Authorities were forming an investigation committee to determine the cause and assess the losses.
