Bangladesh targets small businesses with new Bogura industrial park

Bangladesh plans to establish an industrial park on about 400 acres in Bogura to accommodate growing demand from small and medium-sized enterprises, commerce, industry and textiles minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said Saturday.

Muktadir said preliminary development work on the proposed Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation park could begin this winter.

“The existing BSCIC industrial estate in Bogura is already full, while demand for new industrial plots among SME entrepreneurs is growing,” he said.

The planned park would include facilities for technical training, workforce development and assistance for establishing industries. Entrepreneurs would also have access to relatively low-interest financing under a government credit wholesaling program.

Muktadir said the government is working to improve access to energy and electricity, simplify gas connections and reduce financing costs to make local industries more competitive. He earlier visited the proposed site in Fapor Union.
