Bangladesh village clash over Ludo game leaves one dead

A man was killed and at least 20 people were injured Saturday in a clash between two groups that police said began with a dispute between children over a game of Ludo.

The violence occurred in Baigda Banderbari village in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria, and lasted from about 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Police and residents said the dispute began Friday when 12-year-old Yasin allegedly slapped 11-year-old Nirab during the game. Nirab’s father, Hamdu Mia, later allegedly struck Yasin with a stick.

Supporters of Yasin’s father allegedly attacked Hamdu’s home Saturday, triggering fighting with locally made weapons. Hamdu, 50, was fatally wounded with a sharp weapon.

“Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any further violence. Legal proceedings are underway,” additional superintendent of police M.M. Rakib Ur Raja said.
