University of Dhaka will build a July Memorial Monument on its campus to honor those killed during the 2024 July Mass Uprising, university officials said.
The foundation stone is scheduled to be laid Aug. 5 as part of programs marking the uprising’s second anniversary. Vice chancellor ABM Obaidul Islam chaired a preparatory meeting Monday to review arrangements.
University officials also plan to establish a July Corner at the central library to preserve clothing, personal belongings, photographs, videos and other archival materials connected to the uprising.
Commemorative events will include a discussion at the Teacher-Student Centre, prayers at the central mosque and documentary screenings across campus.
University authorities said students, teachers, officers and employees who participated in the movement may receive recognition after their involvement is verified. Restoration work is also underway to preserve graffiti created during the uprising.
