Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh held a third round of talks Saturday with a Cockroach Janata Party delegation after education minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned over examination irregularities.
Pradhan stepped down following nationwide protests over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate paper leak and a 26-day hunger strike led by activist Sonam Wangchuk.
Cockroach Janata Party leader Abhijeet Dipke welcomed the resignation but said demonstrations at Jantar Mantar would continue until the group’s remaining demands were met.
Those demands include 1 crore rupees in compensation for families of students who died by suicide over examination-related issues, assurances that protesters will not face action and disciplinary measures against police accused of using force.
Wangchuk called the resignation “a victory of democracy, peace, and perseverance.”
Pradhan said the government had ordered a federal investigation, canceled the examination and conducted a retest.
