Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal has launched a weekly tree-planting campaign honoring those killed during the July and August student-led uprisings and the broader movement to restore democracy.
Leaders and activists planted trees in memory of Abu Sayed, Mugdha and Chatra Dal member Wasim, whom organizers described as prominent martyrs of the movement.
“We have organized this tree plantation program of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal today in memory of the martyrs who died in the movement to restore democracy and the student masses in July and August,” a group representative said.
Organizers said the campaign is part of prime minister Tarique Rahman’s broader initiative to plant 250 million trees across Bangladesh. They said the program seeks to preserve environmental balance and help create a livable and prosperous country.
“This will continue every week,” the representative said. “Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal is doing this work relentlessly and will continue to do so.”
