Four more children died with symptoms consistent with measles in the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. Tuesday, raising the combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 797, health officials said.
The Directorate General of Health Services classified all four latest deaths as suspected measles fatalities. Bangladesh has recorded 702 suspected deaths and 95 laboratory-confirmed deaths.
Officials reported 878 new suspected cases during the period, bringing the nationwide total to 119,448. Another 130 infections were confirmed through laboratory testing, raising the confirmed case count to 14,708.
Since March 15, hospitals across Bangladesh have admitted 102,244 patients with suspected measles, according to agency data. Of those patients, 98,411 have recovered.
Health authorities did not report any increase in the laboratory-confirmed death toll in the latest update.
