Bangladesh’s economic growth slowed sharply in the January-March quarter as industrial production contracted and agriculture and services lost momentum.
Gross domestic product grew 2.22% in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025-26, down from 4.53% during the same period a year earlier, according to provisional Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics data. The latest quarterly rate was the lowest since the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024-25.
Industrial output declined 0.28%, reversing 3.33% growth in the corresponding quarter last year. Agricultural growth slowed to 1.74% from 4.61%, while services growth fell to 3.52% from 7.32%.
Growth had reached 4.96% in the first quarter and 3.03% in the second quarter of the current fiscal year. The statistics agency earlier estimated full-year growth at 4.14%, compared with 3.49% in the previous fiscal year.
