A former student protest leader and member of parliament Nahid Islam warned that former prime minister Sheikh Hasina would face execution if she returned to Bangladesh, delivering a fiery speech tied to the student-led uprising that forced her from office.
Nahid said Hasina fled to India through a “safe exit” rather than remain in Bangladesh to face justice. “If Sheikh Hasina had the courage, she would have faced justice from within the country,” he said.
He declared that “the hangman’s rope is waiting for her” and argued that severe punishment was needed to deter future authoritarian rulers from attacking protesters.
Nahid also rejected any political rehabilitation of Hasina or the Awami League, warning that citizens who marched toward Gonobhaban would form a “wall of resistance” against any attempt to restore the party.
