At least four people were injured when a crude bomb exploded during a National Citizen Party rally in Savar, outside Dhaka, on Monday night.
The blast occurred at about 9:45 p.m. at the Tarapur Eidgah Ground as Nabila Tasnid, convener of the party’s Dhaka North District unit, was speaking. The explosion occurred near the front of the stage and triggered panic at the gathering.
NCP convener and opposition chief whip Nahid Islam and other senior party leaders were at the event. The four injured were taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
NCP leaders and activists later marched to Savar Model Police Station and demanded accountability over security failures.
“Clearly, a bomb was exploded here with the plan to murder us, and we demand justice for this. No terrorist will find a home in Savar. Those who shelter mass murderers, those who shelter terrorists, extortionists, and killers, and those who shelter corrupt individuals will face the same fate as the Awami League,” said Nahid.
Party leaders said their nationwide march would continue despite the attack.
