Legal action will be taken over the deaths of six newborns at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital based on probe findings, health and family welfare minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain said Monday.
The newborns died May 27 in the hospital’s postnatal ward in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area within three hours.
Husain said a health ministry committee is already investigating and a Directorate General of Health Services committee is being formed after the Eid holidays. He said the committee is expected to report within three days.
Attorney general Ruhul Quddus Kazal said discussions focused on liability and legal action against those found responsible. Deputy attorney general Al Faisal Siddiqui was added to support the inquiry.
Husain said officials are also reviewing how a commercial bakery on the hospital premises received an environment license.
