The United States has become Bangladesh’s top soybean supplier after private importers increased purchases under a reciprocal trade deal and American prices eased earlier in the year, according to a report from the United States Department of Agriculture.
In the first eight months of marketing year 2025-26, the United States supplied 84 percent of Bangladesh’s soybean imports, up from 48 percent a year earlier, the agency said.
Bangladesh produces only about 7 percent of its annual soybean requirement, with most demand met through imports.
The report said Bangladesh imported 13.5 tonnes of soybeans from July through February, including 11.3 tonnes from the United States.
The Department of Agriculture expects soybean imports to rise 4.3 percent to 24 lakh tonnes in the next marketing year starting in July.
