Police in Bangladesh arrested a man in Chattogram’s Patiya on Saturday night, accusing him of using AI generated images with top politicians and fake identities to defraud people.
The suspect, Riyad Bin Selim, 40, was detained in Paikpara of Patiya municipality in Chattogram, also known as Chittagong, police said. Officers seized a walkie-talkie and several fake identity cards, including cards identifying him as a protocol officer for the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Chairperson Security Force.
Nazmul Hasan, additional deputy inspector general of Chattogram Range, said Riyad used images with political leaders to gain trust.
“Riyad has obtained a diploma in computer science from a private institution. He may have created the images using artificial intelligence,” Hasan said.
Police said the case began after Kamrul Hasan accused Riyad of taking money through false promises.
