Khalilur Rahman, a diplomat and economist and former United Nations official, has been appointed foreign minister in Bangladesh’s new cabinet led by Tarique Rahman.
Rahman assumed office Feb. 17, succeeding Md. Touhid Hossain. He also served as high representative on Rohingya issues and priority matters from Nov. 19, 2024, to Feb. 17, 2026, and as national security adviser under Muhammad Yunus from April 9, 2025, to Feb. 17, 2026.
Rahman studied economics at University of Dhaka and later earned graduate degrees at Tufts University and Harvard University.
