Residents and Bangladeshi visitors in West Bengal said they hope the political transition will restore warm diplomatic ties and ease restrictions between the two regions. Educators in Kolkata said the results reaffirm democratic values and reflect a shared cultural heritage.
Bangladesh is India’s largest trading partner in South Asia. Bilateral trade reached about $13.51 billion in fiscal year 2024 to 2025, with India exporting $11.46 billion in goods and importing $2.05 billion. Major products include cotton, mineral fuels and machinery.
The report reflects a broad desire for stability and economic cooperation to strengthen longstanding ties between the two populations.
