Bangladesh fishermen taken by armed pirates in attack that seized seven. Survivors describe sudden assault.

Seven fishermen were abducted on Sunday in the Sundarbans after what survivors described as an armed pirate attack in the Malancha River in the Satkhira range.

The incident occurred near the Hanskhali, Chelakata, and Hetalbuni canals. Returning fishermen Fozer Ali and Sabuz Mia said ten armed kidnappers surrounded their group while they were catching crabs and took seven men, ordering families to send 50 thousand taka per person through mobile payment.

The abducted fishermen were identified as Abdul Aziz, Ibrahim Hossain, Anarul Islam, Najmul Haque, Shamim Hossain, Anwar Hossain, and Mujibul Hossain.

“The smart patrol team is on site and efforts are on to communicate with the victims,” said Sundarbans range officer Md. Fazlul Haque.

Coast Guard officials said they are coordinating with families.
