Bangladesh faces mounting climate threats as extreme heat, flooding, and rising coastal salinity put millions at risk, according to a new World Bank report on South Asia’s adaptation challenges.
The study found that 63 percent of firms and 80 percent of households have acted to manage climate shocks, but most rely on basic steps rather than advanced technologies or resilient infrastructure. A survey of 250 coastal villages identified disaster-protection infrastructure as the most urgent unmet need.
“Bangladesh’s resilience is being continually tested,” said Jean Pesme, the World Bank’s division director for Bangladesh and Bhutan. The report urges expanded early-warning systems, social protection, adaptation finance, and stronger collaboration between government and the private sector.
