A Bangladeshi war-crimes tribunal on Monday sentenced former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death for four counts of crimes against humanity linked to last year’s July uprising.
Judges found him responsible for abetting and failing to prevent the killing of six people in Dhaka’s Chankharpul and six others in Ashulia outside the capital.
The tribunal said his actions and inaction directly enabled the attacks, ruling that a single death sentence would cover all four counts.
Former police chief Abdullah Al-Mamun received a reduced sentence after providing what the court called full and true disclosure. Deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina was also sentenced to death in the same case.
Kamal has 30 days to appeal the sentence to the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
