At least 40 people have been killed in alleged extrajudicial incidents since Bangladesh’s interim government took power after the July 2024 uprising, according to rights group Odhikar.
The victims include 19 shot dead, 14 tortured, and seven beaten to death. Rights monitors say the killings raise concerns about continued impunity among security forces.
The Manabadhikar Sanskriti Foundation (MSF) reported 13 deaths in jail custody in October, up from eight in September, highlighting worsening prison conditions. Human rights advocates argue that despite the fall of the Awami League, state violence has persisted under new authorities.
Odhikar and MSF both urged transparent investigations and accountability mechanisms to prevent further abuse, warning that without reform, the interim period could entrench the very practices it was meant to end.
