Fourteen months after the fall of the Awami League, political unrest continues to plague Bangladesh. Rights group Odhikar recorded 7,979 incidents of political violence since the interim government took office, resulting in 281 deaths. Despite promises of reconciliation, factional clashes and turf battles remain widespread.
Observers say the country has yet to recover from the trauma of the July 2024 uprising, with old rivalries resurfacing under new leadership. Odhikar said the intensity of political conflicts shows the fragility of the transition. Analysts note that while overt state repression has declined, violence among rival political factions now fills the void.
The interim government, critics warn, risks losing legitimacy unless it ensures accountability and restores confidence in the democratic process before the next election.
