The Pakistan Navy said Wednesday its ship PNS Yarmook seized narcotics worth nearly $1 billion from two stateless sailboats in the Arabian Sea during a Saudi-led maritime operation.
The vessel intercepted the dhows within 48 hours, confiscating more than two tons of crystal meth and 50 kilograms of cocaine valued at about $972 million, according to the U.S.-backed Combined Maritime Forces. Officials called it one of the alliance’s most successful drug seizures.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the operation as a source of national pride, while naval chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf commended the crew’s professionalism.
