The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party has urged Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to make the interim administration function like a non-partisan caretaker government to ensure a neutral election in February 2026.
A three-member BNP delegation led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna, calling for the removal of any “party-affiliated advisers” and for neutral officials to be appointed in key posts.
Yunus, who oversees the Public Administration Ministry, said all reshuffles before the polls will occur under his direct supervision. “We will choose the individuals who are capable of maintaining peace and order during polls,” he said.
The BNP also raised concerns about police transfers, alleged loyalists of the previous regime, and recent fires at major installations. A Jamaat-e-Islami delegation is scheduled to meet Yunus next.
