India and Bhutan have launched a major new initiative to establish rail connectivity between the two countries, Indian Foreign Minister Vikram Misri said Monday at a joint press conference with Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Misri highlighted the close ties rooted in cultural links, trust and shared development goals. He noted India remains Bhutan’s largest development partner, pledging about $120 million for Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2024–2029), double the previous plan’s support.
The aid covers infrastructure projects, community programs and economic stimulus. Misri said Bhutan’s King and Prime Minister have engaged closely with India, underscoring the depth of bilateral relations.
