Bangladesh urges EU to expand legal migration opportunities

Bangladesh has urged the European Union to widen legal migration channels, stressing that structured initiatives like the EU Talent Partnership could help reduce irregular migration.

The call came during a meeting in Dhaka between Foreign Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam and Michael Shotter, the European Commission’s director for Migration and Asylum.

Islam said with more than half of Bangladesh’s population under 30, the country could reliably supply skilled and semi-skilled workers for Europe’s labor market. He proposed EU-funded training programs with Bangladeshi institutions to align workers with European standards.
