Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has acknowledged that Bangladesh’s law and order situation has “slightly deteriorated,” citing recent unrest in Rajbari and Hathazari.
His admission is a rare recognition from the government that it has fallen short in ensuring safety. Five people have been detained over the Rajbari violence, and Chowdhury has promised accountability once investigations conclude.
But promises are not enough.
Citizens need swift justice and preventive measures, not repeated assurances after the fact. Violence flares because intolerance is left unchecked and social media threats go unanswered. Acknowledging weakness is a first step, but Chowdhury must show the resolve to restore public confidence by delivering tangible results.
The country deserves stronger action and decisive leadership.
