Pakistan’s Punjab province is reeling from the worst floods in its history, with officials confirming that 2 million people have been directly affected.
Torrential monsoon rains, intensified by climate change, combined with cross-border water releases from India, have pushed the Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi rivers to unprecedented levels.
Entire low-lying villages and vast stretches of farmland now lie submerged, forcing families to abandon homes and seek shelter in government-run camps set up in schools and police stations.
Television footage shows residents crowding into boats, salvaging belongings, and struggling with food shortages.
“Our animals are starving, and we are not getting food anywhere else,” said Emaan Fatima, a resident of Punjab, to the Associated Press.
Authorities continue evacuations, stressing that saving human lives remains their top priority
