Since the interim government assumed office, 1,604 protests have taken place in Dhaka and surrounding areas, Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said Sunday.
The demonstrations, organized by 123 groups, have significantly disrupted public life. Chowdhury urged political and civic organizations to relocate protests to designated spaces such as Suhrawardy Udyan or open fields to ease public suffering.
While protests can serve as a temporary outlet for frustration, observers say they are not enough to address the deeper issues affecting Bangladeshi society. Instead, Bengalis are being urged to form structured, mission-driven organizations focused on long-term problem-solving. Sustained progress, they argue, requires a shift from street demonstrations to strategic action rooted in self-determination and individual capability.
Critics point to a long history of government ineffectiveness dating back to the fall of Siraj ud-Daula in the 18th century. They contend that relying on the state to deliver solutions has repeatedly failed. As protests continue to mount, many believe the future lies not in confrontation but in grassroots action led by citizens committed to building institutions that can produce real, lasting change.
