Two journalists were injured in Dhaka’s Motijheel area on Saturday night after being attacked with sticks by a group of men, highlighting the urgent need for stronger training and protection in Bangladesh’s media sector.
Redwanul Haque of DBC News and AZ Bhuiyan Anas of Kalbela were admitted to Mugda General Hospital following the assault. While press leaders rightly condemned the violence, the incident also underscores another issue: Bangladeshi journalists must be better prepared to avoid becoming the story themselves.
Reporters need training in objectivity, conflict de-escalation, and even basic self-defense. Without these skills, the profession remains exposed to both physical and reputational threats.
