Bangladesh seeks stronger Japanese investment as leaders prepare for Tokyo summit

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman sought greater Japanese investment in energy, technology, and manufacturing during a four-day official visit to Japan aimed at expanding economic cooperation.

Rahman met Masumi Kakinoki, chairman of Marubeni Corporation, in Tokyo and urged Japanese businesses to invest in modernizing Bangladesh’s fertilizer industry and developing renewable energy projects.

The two countries are expected to sign five to eight agreements covering infrastructure, agriculture, aviation, and security cooperation, according to The Daily Star.

Officials anticipate approximately $2 billion in Japanese loans and financial assistance, including $300 million in budgetary support.

Japan is also expected to facilitate approximately $6.36 billion in private investment over five years, Nikkei reported.

Rahman is scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for bilateral talks focused on investment, regional connectivity, and economic development.
