Bangladesh opposition leader alleges secret pact between BNP and India. He says deal threatens national stability.

Bangladesh opposition leader Nahid Islam on Sunday accused the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of secretly cooperating with India to destabilize the country’s hill regions.

“The BNP came to power by striking a deal with India. Now it is destabilising the hills in the same way,” Nahid said during a public outreach event in Mirpur-10.

Nahid, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and opposition chief whip, alleged that India was fueling unrest in the hills, killing people along the border, and manipulating river flows to pressure Bangladesh.

He also questioned the government’s intentions regarding the Ganges water-sharing treaty with India.

Calling the government illegitimate, Nahid accused BNP of disregarding the results of a constitutional referendum and potentially paving the way for the Awami League’s political rehabilitation.

He further accused state minister Mir Shahe Alam of improperly selecting mayoral candidates and challenged the legitimacy of current city corporation administrators.
