Bangladesh hospital faces possible dialysis gap for 276 patients

A dialysis contract expiring Nov. 29 could disrupt treatment for 276 patients at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in Bangladesh, with no confirmed interim plan, The Business Standard reported Monday.

Hospital director Mohammad Taslim Uddin said the government was procuring replacement machines, but a new facility might not operate until February or March 2027. Many patients need dialysis two or three times weekly.

The existing Sandor center has 31 machines and 45 employees. Patients pay a subsidized Tk621 (approximately $5.04) per session.

Sandor assistant manager Taief Rahman said the company had proposed lowering its session fee, but had received no renewal decision.

The health ministry has ordered procurement of 31 replacement machines. Installation, trained personnel, and supporting infrastructure are also needed, leaving patients uncertain about affordable care during the transition.
