Bangladesh’s consumer protection agency fined 87 businesses Tk771,500 (approximately $6,264) during nationwide inspections of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders and edible oil markets Sunday.
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) deployed 46 teams across Dhaka and 31 districts. Inspectors checked supplies, compliance with government-set prices, price-list displays, weights, expiration dates, receipts, and signs of artificial shortages or adulterated goods.
Officials instructed traders to display current prices, charge fixed rates, preserve purchase and sales receipts, and avoid hoarding or overcharging. Law enforcement officers, health inspectors, trade groups, and the Consumers Association of Bangladesh assisted the inspections.
The DNCRP urged shoppers to check maximum retail prices and expiration dates, keep receipts, and report suspected fraud through hotline 16121. It said market monitoring would continue to protect supplies, fair prices, and consumer interests.
