Chattogram opened a 2.2-kilometer cycling track along its airport road Oct. 9, creating a dedicated route that city officials described as Bangladesh’s first of its kind.
The track runs from Shah Amanat International Airport to the elevated expressway. It was built under a road expansion and infrastructure project implemented by the city corporation.
The four-lane road has sidewalks on both sides, a central divider, and landscaped walking space along one side, where the cycling track was constructed.
Finance minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said additional cycling routes would be developed gradually across Chattogram. He also urged mayor Sahadat Hossain to expand safe walking areas, including alongside canals.
The city corporation expects the new facility to encourage environmentally friendly transport and improve the urban landscape. Officials, invited guests, and cyclists rode along the track after its opening.
