Bangladesh has completed work on 32 gas wells in seven months, supplying about 148 million cubic feet daily to its national grid, but pipeline problems are delaying further gains, according to Petrobangla.
Another 60 million cubic feet per day from completed wells is awaiting transmission infrastructure, The Business Standard reported Thursday.
Seven additional wells are being drilled, with completion scheduled for January. They could provide about 96 million cubic feet daily, depending on pipeline and processing capacity.
Bangladesh plans to drill 150 wells by 2031 and another 150 between 2031 and 2035 to expand domestic production.
Daily gas demand remains about 3.8 billion cubic feet against supply of roughly 2.6 billion.
Petrobangla chairman Md Abdul Mannan said pipeline complications prevent full use of completed wells’ production capacity.
