Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed authorities Sunday to expedite the Inner Circular Road project, saying faster implementation is needed to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka.
Rahman issued the directive during a meeting at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat to review progress on the project, deputy press secretary Hasan Shiplu said.
Rahman asked the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Local Government Division to jointly review the existing project plan and take steps to accelerate construction.
He also called for officials to identify and remove obstacles to implementation, improve coordination among agencies, and set a realistic deadline for completing the project.
Rahman said visible progress should be made as soon as possible.
Several government ministers and state ministers attended the meeting.
