UK firm eyes Bangladesh airport contract with $12 million investment, 1,000 jobs

Menzies Aviation said Thursday it plans to invest $12 million in Bangladesh during its first year if selected as second passenger-handling operator at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s third terminal.

UK-based Menzies said the investment would create more than 1,000 direct jobs and could support over 4,500 additional indirect jobs across the economy and supply chain.

Company officials said Menzies would establish a training academy in Dhaka and work with universities, colleges, and schools on aviation programs, internships, and graduate pathways. It also plans to source and manufacture uniforms locally.

Menzies is competing with Celebi, dnata, Swissport, and SAT for the contract.

Sakib Ershad of British High Commission said he expected “fair competition rather than geopolitical influence.”

Civil aviation authorities aim to begin partial third-terminal operations by Dec. 16.
