Bangladesh says Mecca Pact is about Muslim self-defense, not threats

Bangladesh foreign minister Khalilur Rahman said Sunday that the “Mecca Pact” should not be seen as a threat or an offensive initiative, describing it instead as a matter of collective self-defense for Muslim countries.

“This is not a matter of threatening. This is not a matter of attacking anyone. This is a matter of self-defense of our world Muslim family. So I do not see any reason for anyone to be upset or worried about this,” Rahman said.

He reiterated that the pact is an internal matter of what he called the “world Muslim family” and said there was no justification for concern over it.

Rahman’s comments were aimed at addressing possible unease surrounding the pact and emphasizing that its purpose, as described by Bangladesh, is defensive rather than confrontational.

Bangladesh has framed the initiative as one centered on mutual protection and shared interests among Muslim countries.
