Bangladesh offers up to Tk 200,000 (approximately $1,622) for tips leading to recovery of illegal firearms

Bangladesh government has renewed cash rewards for information leading to recovery of looted and illegal firearms, offering up to Tk 200,000 (approximately $1,622) for information that helps authorities recover heavy weapons.

Home minister Salahuddin Ahmad announced the revised rewards Saturday after a quarterly crime review conference at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in Dhaka, according to a Ministry of Home Affairs statement cited by bdnews24.com.

Information leading to recovery of pistols, revolvers, or shotguns can earn up to Tk 50,000 (approximately $406).

Authorities will also offer rewards of Tk 10,000 (approximately $81), Tk 15,000 (approximately $122), or Tk 20,000 (approximately $162), depending on the circumstances, for information helping recover sound grenades, looted tear gas shells, and other stolen weapons.

Ahmad said informants’ identities will be kept strictly confidential. The renewed incentive follows a similar reward program announced nearly a year ago.
