Bangladesh names Ashik Chowdhury to lead Invest Bangladesh Authority

Bangladesh has appointed Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun as chairman of Invest Bangladesh Authority under Prime Minister’s Office for a one-year contractual term, according to a government notification issued Sunday.

Appointment was made under newly enacted Invest Bangladesh Act, 2026, according to a Ministry of Public Administration notification signed by deputy secretary Md Golam Rabbani.

Chowdhury brings experience in banking, investment finance, corporate strategy, and public-sector investment promotion. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka and a master’s degree in finance from London Business School, and he is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

His career has included roles at Standard Chartered Bank, American Airlines, and HSBC, where he worked in Bangladesh and Singapore. At American Airlines, he rose to head of finance for Europe and Asia, and at HSBC he worked in infrastructure finance investment banking. He later returned to Bangladesh and took leadership roles at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority.

Ashik will serve for one year.

Appointment requires him to relinquish any other profession, business, or employment with a government, semi-government, or private institution or organization during his tenure.

Notification said other terms and conditions would be set through a contract. It added that order was issued in the public interest.
