Bangladesh court dismisses Dhanmondi 32 case against Yunus and 26 others

A Dhaka court summarily dismissed a case against former interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus and 26 others over the vandalism and arson at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Dhanmondi 32 residence.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana ruled there were insufficient grounds to proceed, Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsud Doha Sumon said. Tamanna Chowdhury Priyanka, a Dhanmondi resident, had filed the case hours earlier.

The accused include former interim government advisers, National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders and lawmakers, former press secretary Shafiqul Alam, and several online activists.

The complaint alleged that 3,000 to 5,000 people armed with sticks, hammers, and inflammable materials attacked the property on Feb. 5, 2025, looting, burning, and later demolishing it with heavy machinery. It also accused some defendants of encouraging the attack online, providing financial support, or failing to protect the property.
