Bangladesh police arrest expelled Swecchasebak Dal leader over shooting targeting journalists

City detective police arrested an expelled Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal leader Monday in connection with a shooting targeting journalists in Khulna district, police said.

The suspect was identified as Asaduzzaman Mithu, a resident of the Sonadanga Residential Area and son of Sultan Mahmud.

Mithu had served as a joint convener of the Khulna City branch of Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal before being expelled from the organization.

Police sources said officers apprehended Mithu in the Khalishpur Nutunrasta area Monday afternoon. He was reportedly traveling toward Benapole when he was taken into custody.

Authorities linked the arrest to the shooting incident involving journalists in the district. The report did not provide additional details about the shooting, including when it occurred, whether anyone was injured, or what charges Mithu may face in connection with the case.
