American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh leaders have pledged to help facilitate and mobilize an additional $5 billion in investment over the next five years through existing members and prospective American companies.
The commitment came during a meeting with prime minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat in Dhaka, the chamber said.
American Chamber of Commerce members have already invested more than $5 billion in Bangladesh and contribute more than 20% of the country’s tax revenue, according to the group.
Rahman said Bangladesh had entered a new phase of economic transformation and pledged support for foreign investors through predictable policies, efficient governance and continued dialogue.
The chamber welcomed recent investment reforms while calling for long-term policy predictability. It also proposed a Digital Economy Forum or Task Force and a Public-Private Competitiveness Council to address investment barriers.
